Free Classes for People with Diabetes

Take charge of your life by learning how to control your diabetes.  Sign up for a diabetes Self-Management Education class and learn how to take charge of your health.

In these classes you will learn how to live a healthier life with diabetes:

  • Find out how diabetes affects your body
  • Make sense of your blood sugar numbers
  • Meet others who have diabetes
  • Have fun learning in a small group through games, activities and support conversations
  • Learn about diabetes through classes located in the community near your neighborhood

What to expect:

A trained instructor leads the class, which meets several times.  Your class will be small – probably no more than 20 people.  You will have plenty of time to ask questions and learn more from others in your class.

Classes meet once a week for six weeks.  These classes are intended for, but not limited to, Medicare beneficiaries who have diabetes or are pre-diabetic.   Below is a list of upcoming events in your area and how to register.  Click on the column headers to sort.

Become a PEER Educator for Diabetes

Have you seen the effects of chronic illness up close? Do you want to be part of a nationwide effort to help people with diabetes feel better every day? You are invited to participate in the upcoming Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP) Peer Educator Training. This opportunity is offered by TMF Quality Innovation Network and Primaris, as part of the Health for Life, Everyone with Diabetes Counts initiative.

This project is part of a national health disparities program, funded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, to address the higher numbers of hospitalizations, complications and death related to diabetes found in certain communities. We are pleased you will join us in the fight against diabetes. Together, we can save lives.

Primaris and CLAIM will provide the training and provide the tools and resources for no charge to help community partners deliver these classes in settings where neighbors, relatives and friends can benefit. Once trained, partners will run a six-week series of classes with activities and exercises that help people understand how to make better lifestyle choices.

Please note:

  • Trainees must attend all three days of training to receive certification to use the DEEP curriculum; no exceptions.
  • Please consider and research locations where you will provide these free, engaging diabetes classes after you are trained as a diabetes educator. You can provide diabetes education in any facility such as your church or community center.

The DEEP Peer Training is by invitation only. To be considered for this or future trainings, please contact Tiffany Phillips at 573-424-1479 or by email at tiffany.phillips@hcqis.org.  For western Missouri, please contact Trent DeVreugd  at 816-516-3793 or tdevreugd@primaris.org

Join us in the fight against diabetes. Together, we can save lives.
